Michael Nelson
Studio #16
“Hello to those who appreciate photography.
I have been doing commercial photography since 1973. I started in New York City after graduating with a degree in photographic illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology. My first job was as an assistant to a studio photographer at Carnegie Hall. I still hear the singers, dancers, composers, as I climbed the back stairs to the photo studio in which I worked. From there I started freelancing, doing many book covers for Random House, Ballantine books, Dell Publishing, and others. I segued into magazines and ad agencies. My studio was in the photo district.
As many photographers and artists have done, I moved up the Hudson River, working for Universities, Hospitals, and Design firms. My dive into video happened in 1996, the year analog was surpassed by the digital world. That was when more pixels than silver halides could be placed in a digital sensor: specifically the Canon 1ds camera.
Today, along with photography, I do video stories for websites and social media.
As photography and video changes daily I have added Drone imagery for land conservancies and Audio/Video capture for jazz musicians and choral groups.”
