Molly Mackaman

I love painting landscape, still life, and more recently, the human figure. When people began to show up in my artwork during the second half of 2021, it took me by surprise, but populating my studio with faces and figures makes sense in light of pandemic isolation. I’m intrigued by the stories these imaginary figures can tell, and as I paint I develop an interior narrative of who they are, where they live, and their histories. I am finding figurative painting to be an empathic visual language, one that deepens compassion and connection to our messy and glorious human family.

A current favorite medium for me is clay-based wall paint. It dries very quickly, can be carved into and can be used together with acrylic paint, collage, or with oil paint. I like to build up the paint with many layers to create an interesting surface.

This is my first year on the studio tour. I’m thrilled to share my work with visitors, and look forward to welcoming you to my studio.
