Robert Troxell

Studio #19

I was born in Osaka, Japan. My father, an army sergeant and geisha mother enjoined me to embrace diametrically opposed different worldviews.  Replacing gentle strains of the samisen harsh factory whistles became my reality.  During my fine art and industrial art studies, I worked as a journeyman iron pourer and a teamster truck mechanic.

My ceramic sculptures and etchings reflect my early submersion into the industrial process through the intersection with Memphis design, constructivist theory,  and funk art imparted to me by my mentor Victor Spinsky.

Robert has taught at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia and Washburn University.
